1 - Acne and detox: why?

Before I explain what this treatment consists of, you need to know two things.

Humors: "Humors" is an ancient term for the body fluids in which our tissues and organs are immersed: blood, lymph, intracellular fluid, extracellular fluid.

They carry both nutrients and waste, but also materials produced by our cells: hormones, antibodies, neurotransmitters, etc.

In naturopathy, we believe that the quality of these liquids is a guarantee of our health and vitality.

The emunctories: An emunctory organ eliminates waste and impurities from the humours by excretion.

The main emunctories of the human body are the intestines, liver, lungs, kidneys and skin.

In naturopathy, acne is considered to be the consequence of an internal imbalance often linked to an overload of the liver.

Once the liver is overwhelmed and can no longer play its detoxifying role, the skin will assume the role of secondary communicator.

Acne is therefore the witness of a detoxification activity of the skin.

The liver is essential to hormonal balance: it allows the creation of hormones, but especially their recycling.

It is therefore an important organ of hormonal life.

The liver cleans and recycles waste products, including hormones, to be evacuated.

Estrogens are directly affected by the liver, it is the first step of their recycling.

If the recycling is not done properly, estrogen can be reabsorbed and left in excess.

As a general rule, too much estrogen is not a good thing: it can cause androgen sensitivity, cycle and/or mood disorders, infertility and hormonal acne.

Types of waste in our body:

Glues or colloidal residues: these are sticky residues that are not soluble in liquids and are eliminated by the liver, intestines, lungs and sebaceous glands.

Bile, feces and sebum allow the evacuation.

They come from cellular activity, poor digestion of fats, sugars and starch, drugs and other xenobiotics, intestinal dysbiosis, stress, sedentary activity or liver overload.

And this results in waste in the form of mucus, viscous and sticky.

Crystals, or crystalloid residues: these are hard and sharp residues, soluble in liquids and evacuated by the kidneys and the sweat glands.

Urine and sweat allow the evacuation.

They come from an excess of nitrogenous products such as red meat, offal, fish, coffee, cheese, sugars, tea, chocolate, acidifying foods, etc.

But they also come from other factors such as toxins (additives, pesticides, etc.), tobacco, drugs, medications, stress, overwork, lack of sleep...
